Lead Partners
Denver Office of Strategic Partnerships (DOSP) was created in January 2004 by Mayor Hickenlooper to serve as a liaison between the City of Denver and the nonprofit sector. DOSP serves as a catalyst to leverage the best of Denver’s public and nonprofit sectors to engage in innovative and collaborative work. DOSP believes that by working collectively, the public and nonprofit sectors can be even more efficient and effective in strengthening Denver’s communities. The Office accomplishes these objectives through programming designed to actively connect government and community, support collaboration, maximize and leverage resources, and improve community need and asset analysis.
The Piton Foundation is a private, operating foundation established in 1976 by Denver oil man Sam Gary. The foundation is supported principally by contributions from Gary-Williams Energy Corporation and is considered the community investment division of the oil company. Piton's mission is to provide opportunities for children and their families to move from poverty and dependence to self reliance.
As an operating foundation, Piton uses the majority of its private funding to develop and implement its own programs in its three areas of interest: improving pre-kindergarten-high school education, expanding economic opportunities for families, and strengthening lower-income communities.
Urban Land Conservancy (ULC), a nonprofit organization established in 2003, uses real estate as a tool to benefit urban communities. In much the same way that a land trust preserves open space for future generations, we preserve community assets in urban areas to ensure their continued benefit.
Our mission is to acquire, develop, and/or preserve community assets in urban areas for a variety of community needs such as schools, affordable housing, and office space for nonprofits. Our assets consist of real estate and significant seed capital to be leveraged using public and private sources for future community investment. Our work includes land banking and community-inspired real estate development or, more concisely, community development. Currently invested in over $18 million in real estate, serving over 4,000 low income people annually. 130 full and part-time jobs are supported by ULC properties.
