Role of the funding community
Public and private funders should consider the important role they can play in supporting nonprofit shared space opportunities. Funding partners can help ensure that nonprofits are able to create successful multi-tenant nonprofit center facilities by actively investing not only in traditional capital, but also in the intensive process necessary to lay a foundation for a thriving shared space project. Such resources, used to support needs and asset assessments, facilitate partnership agreements for collaborative work and logistics of sharing space, finding appropriate space, and having adequate real estate predevelopment investment, will ensure centers are not only created but have a strong groundwork for ongoing impact. There is a critical opportunity for funders both to be responsive and to act as leaders in the Denver community’s shared space efforts.
